How to: Throw a Summer Kick-Off Party Without Blowing Your Budget

This summer, go a little crazy, and have some fun. You don't have to spend a lot to have a lot of fun. Below are some tips on how to have an amazing party without spending a lot on it.

Invitations

Getting an invitation can be exciting for guests and can improve attendance, so though you want to save money, you don’t want to just send a quick text or facebook invite. Try either getting some very unique evites, or invest in handmade invites. Printing them at home is a cost-effective and easy way to get people to your party. Just make sure to simply shop online for affordable ink, and not to spend too much time on the design, opting instead for some already out there.

Cook at Home

Summer cooking isn't hard to do at all, and you'll save money from not ordering out. Barbecuing is an excellent option, and there are plenty of other ideas. While many people enjoy a good steak, chances are that kids won't want to eat steak. Most kids like hot dogs and hamburgers. Make steak and chicken for the adults, but make plenty of kiddie foods. Watermelon is always a big hit, and they're not expensive during the summer. Opt for simple-to-make potato salad, macaroni salad and a few other sides. Heat up some chilly peppers on the grill for those who love a little spiciness. Finish everything off with popsicles.

Decorations and Lights

Getting festive doesn't have to break the bank, but you can definitely have some fun with it. Consider fun signs or lanterns to add a bit pizzazz to your party. Something that indicates to your guests that this is an occasion to celebrate, and not just your run-of-the-mill get-together.

Fun Treats

Silicone trays that feature different shapes are hot items right now, and they're relatively inexpensive. You can create so many types of treats with these. You can use them to mold chocolate, jello, popsicles or even homemade candy. To make candy, you just need karo syrup, sugar and flavored oils. You boil everything together until it reaches approximately 280 degrees Fahrenheit. Pour your mixture into your molds, and allow them to cool, and you’ll have something super cute to hand out to kids.

Great Games

Every party needs fun activities. Kids always love playing with balloons, and there are never-ending possibilities for this, as you can have water balloon fights, balloon races, hide balloons for a hide-and-seek game where prizes lie hidden in them. Adults can also have fun with classic party games, or you can pull out an old volleyball net or soccer ball to get some sports fun in as well.

Summer doesn't have to be expensive to be fun. Now that you know how to do summer economically, you might just throw a few more parties.
